Rules & Regulations for Admission

For Students Admitted from A.Y. 2016-2017 & Onwards

The following is the Admission Policy in general for students admitted from A.Y. 2016-2017 & onwards, unless otherwise stated:

A. The UG & PG Programmes

The college is envisioned to provide education and perform research in diverse disciplines of basic sciences.

The B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree curriculum is designed to reflect the point of view that the sciences are a seamless whole with no barriers between disciplines.

Duration of the Programmes

  • The B.Sc. shall extend over a period of three years comprising of six semesters and M.Sc Program of two years comprising of four semesters, with two semesters in one academic year. Each semester normally consists of 90 teaching days.
  • Each academic year has 2 semesters of generally 15 weeks each, with minimum of 90 teaching days per semester.
  • Varsha Semester: June – November.
  • Vasanth Semester: December – May.
  • Each UG program shall have a curriculum comprising theory and practical courses with a specified syllabus. The curriculum of the program is a blend of theory courses and practical courses as Discipline Specific Core (DSC), Electives (DSE) and Generic Electives (GE). In addition, project, internship/training and personality development courses as Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC) and Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC) shall be offered.
  • Each PG program shall have a curriculum comprising theory and practical courses with a specified syllabus. The curriculum of each semester is a blenpere_commd of theory courses and practical courses as Core and Discipline Specific Elective (DSE). In addition, Project, Internship/Training, Educational tour/Field visit and the other Competency Enhancement Courses shall be offered.
  • The medium of instruction and examinations shall be English, except for courses on languages other than English.

B. Admission Eligibility:

As per UGC’s Guidelines for Autonomous Colleges during the XII Plan
Period (2012-2017), the BoS can formulate the eligibility norms for admission to the programs (Pg. 12) and Academic Council can make regulations regarding the admission of students to different programs of study in the college (Annexure-IV, Pg. 24).
Keeping the above in mind, with the eligibility norms of Saurashtra University being the minimum, the following are indicated. Each BoS can also frame individual eligibility norms from time to time depending in the innovativeness of the program.

  1. B.Sc.: Candidate who has passed 02 years Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) examination with Science subjects in respective streams of Gujarat State or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  2. B.C.A.: Candidate who has passed 02 years Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) examination of any stream of Gujarat State or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University
  3. B.Sc.IT: Candidate who has passed 02 years Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) examination with Mathematics/Business Mathematics/Statistics/Computer/Physics of any stream of Gujarat State or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  4. B.Voc.: There may be three types of learners getting admission to first semester of skill based courses under NSQF:
    Category – 1: students already acquired NSQF certification Level 4 in a particular industry sector and opted admission in the skill based courses under NSQF in the institutions recognized under Community Colleges / B.Voc. Degree program / DDU
    KAUSHAL Kendras in same trade with job role for which he / she was previously certified at school level.
    Category – 2:Students who have acquired NSQF certification Level 4 but may like to change their trade and may enter into skill based courses in a different trade.
    Category – 3:Students passed 10+2 examination with conventional schooling without any background of vocational training; of Gujarat State or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  1. M. Sc. Programme .:
  2. M.Sc. Chemistry: Candidate, who has passed 03 years Bachelor degree examination with Chemistry/Industrial chemistry subjects or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  3. M.Sc. Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry: Candidate, who has passed 03 years Bachelor degree examination with Chemistry/Industrial chemistry/Applied chemistry/Pharmacy subjects or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  4. M.Sc. information Technology & Computer Application Candidate who has passed B.Sc.I.T. / B.C.A. / B.Voc. / B.Sc. / B.E. / B.Tech. / B.Pharm. / B.Arch. / B.Com (with Computer) with 48% or more OR any graduate with PGDCA/PGDACA with 48% or more in graduation or in PGDCA/PGDACA shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University
  5. M.Sc. Microbiology: A Bachelor degree in science with Microbiology and Biotechnology as main subject of any recognized University or any other qualification accepted as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to M.Sc. Microbiology course.
  6. M.Sc. Biotechnology: A bachelor’s degree in science with Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Environment Science, Food and Nutrition, Agriculture, Medicine and Life Sciences as main subject and BE/B.Tech. in Biotechnology of any recognized University or any other qualification accepted as equivalent thereto are eligible for admission to M.Sc. Biotechnology Programme.
  7. M.Sc. Industrial Chemistry: A Bachelor’s degree in science with Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, and Applied Chemistry as main subject of any recognized University or any other qualification accepted as equivalent with a good academic record, thereto shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.
  8. B.Sc. Mathematics: Candidate who has passed 02 years Higher Secondary Certificate (10+2) examination with Science subjects in respective streams of Gujarat State or any other examination recognized as equivalent thereto with a good academic record, shall be eligible for admission, subject to such other conditions prescribed by the Saurashtra University and State Government from time to time. All admissions are provisional and subject to the approval of Saurashtra University.

C. General Considerations:

  1. Applications will generally be issued during the month of May-June.
  2. Candidates for admission should submit the prescribed application, duly filled in before the last date.  Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  3. The institution has the right to cancel admission, if necessary, in the middle of the academic year.
  4. Admission will be considered provisional till they are approved by the Principal / Saurashtra University.
  5. Admissions can be considered to be granted only when the full fees for the semester are paid, an official receipt has been issued and the name of the applicant appears on the relevant rolls. Payment in full or in part can be condoned or deferred by the Principal.
  6. All admissions of undergraduates and post graduates are valid as per norms for the full duration of the programs. However, he/she is required to register at the beginning of every academic year.
  7. Original documents submitted by the candidate at the time of admission or later will be returned at the end of the academic year after due verification of genuity of the certificates.

D. Selection:

  1. Admissions to the various Programs are done on the basis of merit in qualifying exam.
  2. Admission of students into the Autonomous Degree Programs will be on the basis of the aggregate marks in the qualifying examination or its equivalent, unless specified otherwise.  The prevailing Reservation Policy as specified by the Government of Gujarat and the Parent University will be followed for all candidates.
  3. Extra marks may also be awarded to the students possessing NCC/ NSS / Sports certificates. This marks percentage will be decided as per the guidelines of the State Government or specified by regulations of Admission Committee.
  4. All admissions will be subject to the verification by Saurashtra University.
